Free seminar on how to succeed in television, film

Wild Horse Productions is offering a free one-hour informational seminar about our new Wild Horse Talent Management Division. Join us at 7 p.m. today and find out how we can help you achieve your goals working in TV, film, and stage. As the television and film industry is making it's way to Northern Nevada, those entering into the field need to be professionally educated. Knowing the do's and don'ts of the industry is necessary to succeed.

Temma Keatan-Hammond will head up the Wild Horse Management Division. Temma has over 35 years experience working as a personal coach, manager and agent for actors, musical groups, and touring performance groups in Hollywood, Las Vegas, and Northern Nevada.

The seminar is free and is open to all ages and will be held at the Children's Museum of Northern Nevada.

Bad Intent to perform Friday on Third Street

Bad Intent Band will be featured at the Fridays @ 3rd Street Dance Party from 7-11 p.m. Friday, 224 South Carson Street. Mom and Pop's Diner, Carson City Redevelopment, and Brewery Art Center sponsor the Friday event. There will be a bar and food booth on the street.

Dine out, donate to help library

The Carson City Library Foundation has partnered with Applebee's Neighborhood Grill & Bar for a fundraising event on Monday and Tuesday.

The restaurant has a community program called "Eatin' Here is Good for the Neighborhood!"

Applebee's, 3300 S. Carson St., will donate 15 percent of lunch and dinner tabs to the Library Foundation on those two days. Customers must present a flyer to their server in order for the Foundation to receive the 15 percent donation.

A separate flyer must be presented at each visit. Tax, tip and alcoholic beverages are not included in the tally for donated funds. Flyers are available at the Carson City Library, in the Friends of the Library Browsers Bookstore and at Coldwell Banker Best Sellers.

The Carson City Library is open Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 10 a.m.-9 p.m., and Friday, Saturday, and Monday from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. It is located at the corner of Roop and Washington streets.

Library friends host book sale

The Friends of the Carson City Library will be hosting a two-day "Dollar A Book Sale" in the Carson City Library Auditorium, 900 N. Roop St., from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

A members preview sale will be on Friday from 9-10 a.m. A variety of books will be available for people of all ages and interests.

GOP committee meets today

Douglas County Republican Central Committee will hold its monthly meeting at 6:30 p.m. today on the second floor of the Judicial Building on Buckeye Road in Minden.

A social with homemade cookies along with coffee will be held from 6:30-7 p.m. From 7-7:30 p.m. 'talking points' under the guidance of Jack Van Dien will be "Immigration Revisited."

Stamps to honor wooden boat show

Four classic wooden boats will be featured in a new U. S. Postal Service collectors' stamp series at the 35th annual Concours d'Elegance. The event returns to Tahoe today through Saturday, giving the public the opportunity to appreciate the beauty and the history of vintage wooden boats.

The new USPS collector's stamp series, entitled "Vintage Mahogany Speedboats," will be dedicated by USPS officials at the Lake Tahoe Concours d'Elegance opening ceremony today.

The Opening Ceremony and V.I.P. Preview Day today is an addition to the Concours d'Elegance. The opening ceremony is the official start of the show, with added attractions - including private rides in some of Tahoe's premier wooden boats. Tickets will be $100, but because sales will be limited to the first 500, spectators will be able to freely stroll the docks and preview the boats while they are being judged.
