Minden's Reya Kempley won the women's title in the National Rifle Association Smallbore Prone National Championship held recently at Camp Perry, Ohio.
Kempley, competing again at Camp Perry for the first time since 1999, posted an impressive score of 6387-474X.
"I'm mostly happy with how I performed," said Kempley. "This is the first year that I've been here when I've known a little bit about wind grading and other important things, so I've had a lot of fun and I shot well. I know I can do better next time."
The National Smallbore Rifle NRA Prone Championship is a 6,400-point aggregate of the Metallic Sight championship and the Any Sight Championship. The matches are fired with .22 caliber rifles at target ranges of 50 meters, 50 yards, and 100 yards. The Any Sight category includes both metallic sights and telescopic sights.
Staub fires hole-in-one at Plumas
Sam Staub, 17, of Carson City recently fired a hole-in-one, using a 5-iron on the 201-yard third hole at Plumas Pines Golf Resort while playing in the Northern Nevada Junior Golf Association Tournament.
