Babbitt shines in national all-star

Galena High's Luke Babbitt showed he is indeed one of the nation's best high school basketball players at the second annual Boost Mobile Elite 24 Hoops Classic presented by RISE Magazine.

Babbitt, a senior at Galena who has committed to play for the University of Nevada, had 16 points, three rebounds and an assist to help the White team beat the Orange team 169-164.

The game featured 24 of the nation's top high school players, regardless of grade level. The game was played at New York City's Rucker Park, arguably the nation's most legendary playground for basketball.

Hurtado eliminated from Olympic Trials

The dream of competing in the 2008 Summer Olympics has come to an end for Reno's Diego Hurtado.

Hurtado was eliminated from the double elimination U.S. Olympic Boxing Trials on Friday in Houstona at 106 pounds with his second loss, an 18-11 defeat to Malcolm Franklin from Rialto, Calif.

Franklin advanced this weekend to face No. 1 Luis Yanez for the right to be in Beijing. Frankin must beat Yanez twice for the Olympic berth while Yanez needs just one win.

Stalling injured, out for the season

Sarah Stalling, a 2005 Carson High graduate, suffered a season-ending injury in her first game of the season on Wednesday with the Northwest Christian College women's soccer team of Eugene, Ore.

Stalling, a junior, will miss the rest of the season after suffering a torn anterior cruciate ligament. She will be able to redshirt and will have two years of eligiblity left after this season.

After a standout two-year career with Southwestern Oregon Community College, Stalling signed with Northwest Christian, an NAIA school.
