The Carson High wrestling team showed that a few days of tough practices can pay off as it took it to the mat Wednesday night against Hug High School and came away with a 69-6 win.
Although forfeits were an easy advantage for Carson, the team was still prepared. "We didn't want to overlook Hug so we just came out aggressive and wrestled hard," said Aaron Jolcover.
Impressed with the way his team looked, Carson coach Tyson Thivierige was all smiles after the matches. "We brought a lot of intensity and controlled the tempo very well, I'm happy," he said.
At 145 pounds Mick Poole had an exciting night as he not only won his first varsity match but he pinned his opponent in three minutes, 20 seconds. Junior Valderez showed up ready as his 160 pound opponent was tough, but Valadarez also won by pin.
"Junior did a good job, the guy was wiry but he just went out there and stuck him," Thivierige said.
Many of the seniors stepped up and pulled through with quick pins with Joclover at 140 pounds in 1:39 and 189 pounder Trent Simpson in 1:41."I just wanted to get myself a good win to build on for the showdown next week," explained Jolcover.
Jolcover was referring to this Wednesday's match at CHS against Damonte Ranch, which is considered the Northern 4A's top team.
Carson's 215 pounder Garett Truesdale also continued his success this season with a fall in 3:34 and was followed with wins by sophomore 112-pounder Nick Schlager as he pinned his opponent in 2:00 and Ricky Udarte pulled out a close match, winning 8-7 in the 119-pound division.
