Today's weather will be partly cloudy and cold with highs from 30-40 and north winds 5-10 mph shifting to the east around 10 mph in the afternoon.

Tonight, partly cloudy with lows 10-20 and east winds around 10 mph.

The Nevada Department of Transportation reports at 6:49 a.m. the following highway controls in Northern Nevada and California:

US Highway 50 " Chains or snow tires required for 9.8 miles between 0.5 miles west of Glenbrook and 3.3 miles west of US Highway 395 at south Carson City.

Chains mandatory for 16.5 miles between 5 miles east of Kyburz and 4.1 miles west of SR 89.

SR 28 " Snow tires or chains required for 16.2 miles between US Highway 50 and the California state line.
