Services Friday for Carson Valley centenarian Sallie Springmeyer

When Gardnerville resident Sallie Springmeyer arrived in Carson Valley in 1931, barely 1,300 people lived here.

On Friday, friends and family will remember the Carson Valley rancher and centenarian, who died in the home she and her husband built nearly 70 years ago. She was 104.

Born Aug. 22, 1903, she came to Nevada in 1931 and met her future husband, attorney George Springmeyer, who handled her divorce case. The two were married May 8, 1931, according to The Record-Courier.

She attended the University of Southern California Law School where she earned a law degree and joined the Nevada Bar in 1936.

She credits her Bar membership with opening doors for a lifetime of public service, including membership on the State Board of Health under three governors.

In 2001, the Board of Regents of the University and Community College System of Nevada recognized Springmeyer as a Distinguished Nevadan, its highest honor, according to an article in "Nevada Law."

The Springmeyers had one child, Sally Springmeyer Zanjani, who is a professor emeritus of history at the University of Nevada, Reno.

Springmeyer's grandson, Don Springmeyer, is an attorney.
