Arbor Day Foundation offers 10 free trees

Everyone who joins the National Arbor Day Foundation this month will receive 10 free Colorado blue spruce trees as part of the foundation's Trees for America campaign.


Trees will be shipped postpaid between March 1 and May 31, the correct time for planting, with instructions.


The trees are guaranteed to grow, or they will be replaced free of charge.


To receive the trees, send a $10 contribution to TEN FREE COLORADO BLUE SPRUCE TREES, National Arbor Day Foundation, 100 Arbor Ave., Nebraska City, NE, 68401 by Feb. 28, or join at www.arborday.org.


Carson City


Lutheran school to hold open house


Bethlehem Lutheran will hold its Preschool Open House from noon to 1:30 p.m. today at the school, 1837 Mountain St. The public is invited to look at the facilities, find out about programs, and meet the teachers. For information, call 882-5252 ext. 100.




Carson River Advisory Committee meets


The Carson River Advisory Committee will meet at 5:30 p.m. today in the Sierra Room of the Community Center, 851 E. William St.


Members of the Carson River Regional Recreation steering committee will discuss their role in creating the Carson River Aquatic Trail Master Plan, which details how improvements along 13.7 miles of the river could benefit residents and the economy by boosting tourism.




Toastmasters present 2006 awards


The Kit Carson Toastmasters Club recently gathered at the home of Bud and Carolyn Southard for their annual awards presentations and a "Tall Tales" contest.


The following awards were presented for 2006: "Tall Tales," Tim Mueller; International Speech, Leon Cowan; Evaluator, Frank Taylor; Humorous Speech, Frank Taylor; Table Topics, Ronald Burke; Most Improved Toastmaster, Lynn Solano; and Toastmaster of the Year, Michael Bish.


The winner of this year's Tall Tales contest was Scott Fahrenbruch.


The new officers installed are President Scott Fahrenbruch, Vice President of Education Lynn Solano, Vice-President of Public Relations Michael Bish, Vice-President of Membership Fred Daniels, Secretary Jim Madsen, Treasurer Frank Taylor and Sergeant-at-Arms Bud Southard.


Kit Carson Toastmasters meet at 6:30 a.m. every Tuesday morning at Grandma Hattie's Family Restaurant. Visitors are always welcome.

Carson City Dems to meet


The Carson City Democrats will meet at 7 p.m. today at the SNEA Conference Room, 709 E. Robinson St. Guest speaker is state Sen. Dina Titus. Family medical resource night Thursday


Bordewich Bray Elementary School will hold a Family Medical Resource Information Night from 6 - 8 p.m. Thursday in the multipurpose room. Representatives from several area medical and dental programs and organizations will provide families with information. Free baby-sitting and light refreshments will be provided.
