A memorial service for John "Jack" McAvoy. 74, a 16-year Gardnerville resident, will be noon Saturday at the Carson Valley United Methodist Church. It will be a Masonic service.

Mr. McAvoy died Feb. 5, 2007, in Gardnerville.

He was born Aug. 21, 1932, in Los Angeles to Arthur John McAvoy and Lena Ethel Tarver.

He married Patricia McAvoy in January 1977 in Pamona, Calif.

Before moving to Carson City, he lived in West Covina, Calif.

He graduated from high school in Hollywood, Calif., and was an operating engineer in Local 12 in Los Angeles.

He was a member of the Master Mason Carson Valley 33, Greanleaf 670 in Whittier, Calif., Scottish Rite in Pasadena, Calif., Al Malaikah Shrine in Los Angeles and BPOE 2670 in California.

Among his survivors are his wife; son John McAvoy of Jackson, Wyo.; Bonnie Itahara of West Covina; stepdaughter Ginette Wirtz of Hesperia, Calif.; stepson D. Vondracek of Apple Valley, Calif.; sister and brother-in-law Maxine and Russell Dickerson of Bellvue, Wash.; six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

Cremation will be at Walton's Sierra Crematory.

Walton's Douglas County Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
