Carson Pop Warner players honored for academics

Twenty-two players from the 2006 Carson City Pop Warner season have been recognized for academic achievement.

The players were honored by Pop Warner Little Scholars, Inc., a national youth sports organization that requires its participants to perform adequately in the classroom before allowing them to play.

Based on the Pop Warner Little Scholars, Inc. formula, 100 percent represents effectively a perfect score for academics and extracurricular activities. Those named as Pacific Nortwest Academic Scholars were:

Ricky McDonald, 100 percent; Dylan Sawylers, 99.3 percent; Casey Foster, 98.9 percent; Zachary Kind, 98.7 perecent; Devin Harrill, 98.2 percent; Connor Beattie, 98.2 percent; Henry Huffman, 97.9 percent; Zachary White, 97.9 percent; Sage Smith, 97. 5 percent; Patrick Hesse, 97 percent.

Those who received Pacific Northwest honorable mention honors were: Alex Crathers, 95.8 percent; Sam Blei, 94.8 percent; Garrett Schafer, 94.2 percent; Cole Dufresne, 94.1 percent; Erich Slabaugh, 94.1 percent; Kevin Karosich, 93.6 percent; Austin Brown, 93.5 percent; Logan Krupp, 92.8 percent; Willy McDonald, 92.7 percent; Jeremy Cannon, 92.5 percent; Carter Nuckols Forrest, 91.3 percent; Mitch Parra, 90.7 percent.

Escape from Prison Hill Run set

The annual Escape from Prison Hill Half Marathon and Half Marathon Relay will be held on April 28.

The event, which will determine the Reno Runners Club of America state half-marathon champion, will begin at 7 a.m., which will be the starting time for both the half-marathon and 2-person relay.

Entry fee is $40 for the half-marathon, $880 per relay team through March 26. After March 26 the entry fees are $45 and $90. Active tahoe Moutain Milers and Sagebrush Stompers receive a $5 discount.

Online registration can be done at Active.com and online printable registration forms are available at www.sagebrushstompers.org.

Race day registration and race bag pickup will be held at 6 a.m. at Silver Saddle Ranch.

CASA Cinco De Mayo Run scheduled

Court Appointed Special Advocates, also known as CASA, will hold its first Cinco De Mayo Run on May 5. The event will feature a 5K-10K walk-run.

Entry is free for children under 12. Fee is $10 for those 12 and older. The event will begin at 10 a.m. in Carson City, with the exact location and other details still to be decided. For more information, contact Jenny Scanland at scanland@charter.net.
