Vernon W. Pratt Jr., 76, a four-year Dayton resident, died Jan. 12, 2007.

Mr. Pratt was born May 31, 1930, in Orange, N.J., to Vernon and Genevieve Eckert Pratt.

He married Mary "Anita" Garcia on Jan. 8, 1972, in Stateline.

Before moving to Dayton he lived in Antioch, Calif.

He was raised in Glenridge, N.J. Mr. Pratt worked in finance, beginning as a home loan officer then as a financial manager for auto sales throughout California. He retired in 1978.

Mr. Pratt served as a surgical nurse for the U.S. Navy in the Korean War.

He enjoyed fishing, traveling and playing cards.

He was preceded in death by his sister.

Among his survivors are his wife of Dayton; son, Kim Pratt of Afton, Okla..; daughters Melody Cordes of Gardnerville and Robin Halgas and Victoria Baker, both of Oakley, Calif.; stepsons Gary Longe of Susanville, Calif., and Nick Longe of Hillsboro, Ore.; 12 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; and one niece.

Autumn Funerals and Cremations is in charge of arrangements.
