Dr. Taylor Dalmaine Neely, 80, a three-year Carson City resident, died Jan. 20, 2007, at his home.

Dr. Neely was born Oct. 7, 1926, in Mulberry Grove, Ill., to George S. and Lessie Taylor Neely.

He married Catherine Eloise Gibbs on May 28, 1948, in Carbondale, Ill.

Before moving to Carson City, he lived in 23 other cities, most recently Yuma, Ariz., and Dunedin, Fla.

In his lifetime, he had visited Guam, Spain, Saipan, the Philippines, Macau, Canada, China, Taiwan, Israel, Italy, Switzerland, France and Mexico.

He had a bachelor's degree in history from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale; a master's of divinity from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary;, a master's degree in sacred theology from Andover Newton, Massachusetts; and a doctorate in ministry from Andover Newton, Massachusetts.

He was a pastor, missionary, the founder of the Bacolod Philippines Christian Center, the dean of College of Theology at Central Philippine University, and a Veterans Administration Hospital chief chaplain. He was an ordained Baptist minister for 60 years. He was also a Reiki Master.

He had served in the U.S. Army from 1944-46, reaching the rank of technical sergeant.

He enjoyed reading, visiting his family, discussing history and religion, and interjecting humor.

Among his survivors are his wife of 58 years of Carson City; daughter Shirley Neely McCulloch of Incline Village; daughter and son-in-law Mary Neely Woods and Jeff Woods of Carson City; sons and daughters-in-law Stephen Taylor and Donna G. Neely of Omaha, Neb., and Timothy Dalmaine and May H. Neely of Taipei, Taiwan; sisters Laurene Allton of Houston and Cleda Perkins of Decatur, Ill.; brother, Carl Neely of Greenville, Ill; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
