A memorial service for Wilhelm Hoppe, 77, will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Walton's Chapel of the Valley.

Mr. Hoppe died Jan. 25, 2007. He was born Sept. 22, 1929, in Germany.

He moved to the United States in 1959.

He married Elke Kiesserling in 1969.

Before moving to the Carson Valley, Mr. Hoppe lived in Oakland, Calif., and at Lake Tahoe.

He worked at the Beverly Hills Hotel when he came to the United States, then served as maitre d' for 10 years at the Elegant Farmer in Oakland. He later owned and operated Van's Bakery in San Lorenzo, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his wife in 2003.

Among his survivors are his son, Thomas Hoppe; brother and sister-in-law, Hans and Ilse Hoppe; and sister, Frieda.

Walton's Chapel of the Valley is in charge of arrangements.
