James C. Stewart, 98, a Washoe Valley resident for three-and-a-half years, died Jan. 25, 2007, in Reno.

Mr. Stewart was born June 24, 1908, in Regina, Saskatchewan, to James Noble Stewart and Mary Hilda.

Before moving to Washoe Valley, Mr. Stewart lived in Norwalk, Calif.

He was a refrigeration engineer for Arden Farms in Seattle from 1949-73, when he retired. He was a past member of the Union of Operating Engineers in Seattle.

He served in the Merchant Marines from 1927-32.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Esther Stewart, in 1986.

Among his survivors are his daughter Charlene Starman of Washoe Valley; stepdaughter Holly Knox of Las Vegas; granddaughter Janetta Cotton of Mesa, Ariz., and six great-grandchildren.

Entombment will take place at Walton's Carson Garden's Cemetery.

Walton's Chapel of the Valley is in charge of arrangements.
