Carson National 11-12s go long against Truckee

Appeal Staff Report

The Carson National 11-12s showed some power in a 9-1 win over Truckee in the beginning of pool play Monday in the District 1 Little League Championships at Terrace Sports Complex in Reno.

Gehrig Tucker led Carson with two home runs, including a three-run shot in the third inning. T.J. Thomsen followed with a solo shot - a towering blast to right centerfield - to give his team a 4-0 lead after three.

Tucker, who went 2-for-4 with 4 runs batted in, hit his second round-tripper of the game in the fourth, giving Carson National a 7-0 lead. Alex Holcomb, who went 2-for-3 with 2 RBI, opened Carson's scoring in the seventh with his own solo homer.

Carson National scored two more runs in the fifth for a 9-0 lead.

Jacob McClelland had a solo homer nullified in the fourth inning after it was ruled that he failed to touch second base.

Carson National kept its pitching staff fresh by using five arms - Thomsen, Tucker, Kyle Brown, Rory Petersen and Zac Hudson.

Carson also got some more offense. Brown and Charlie Banfield each went 1-for 1, Petersen was 1-for-2 and Daniel Okimura went 1-for-3.

Carson National will next play Reno American East beginning at 8 p.m. tonight at Terrace Sports Complex, which is located on North Robb Drive.
