Kenneth John Szczodroski, 78, a longtime resident of Carson City, died July 13, 2007, at Evergreen Mountain View in Carson City.

He was born July 29, 1928, to Anthony Szczodroski and Elizabeth Stellmack in Pontiac, Mich.

Mr. Szczodroski earned an associate's degree from Michigan State University.

He worked as an alcohol counselor at the San Jose (Calif.) Rehabilitation Center for 23 years and as a certified counselor for more than 40 years.

He was a veteran of the Army National Guard in the Korean War.

He was a Catholic. He enjoyed taking long nature walks and working to help AA participants live better lives.

Among his survivors are his sons Patrick and David Szczodroski, both of Brainerd, Minn.; daughter Gail Evans of Brainerd; and four grandchildren.

No services will be held.

FitzHenry's Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
