A memorial service for Johnny Paxton Jr., 53, a 37-year Carson City resident, will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Walton's Chapel.

Mr. Paxton died July 18, 2007, in Carson City. He was born Feb. 1, 1954, to Johnny Paxton and Lillian Townsend in Los Angeles.

He married Stormy S. Main on Oct. 4, 1986, in Carson City.

Prior to moving to Carson City, he lived in Lakeview Terrace, Calif. He graduated from Western Nevada Community College in 1986 with an associate degree in music.

He worked for more than 20 years as a construction foreman for Garretson and Furgerson Construction Inc. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Mr. Paxton enjoyed fishing, camping, spending time with his family, singing, songwriting and playing his guitar. He built his own recording studio. During his music career, he was the opening act for various recording artists, including Leon Russell, Elvin Bishop, Iron Butterfly, Norton Buffalo and Eric Burdon.

He was preceded in death by his brother Michael Paxton in 2001.

Among his survivors are his wife of Carson City; father, Johnny Paxton of Canyonville, Ore.; mother and stepfather, Lillian and Joe Johnston of Yuma, Ariz.; sons and daughters-in-laws Jay and Nina Kemp of Carson City, Joshua and Elizabeth Lambert of Iowa Park, Texas, Truckee and Jen Paxton of Reno and Jason and Andrea Lake of Gardnerville; daughters Stormy Winters of Carson City, Robin Jackson of Gardnerville and Madeline Paxton of Lawton, Okla.; daughters and sons-in-law, Jenera and Perry Batten of Carson City and Venice and Drew Simpson of Portland, Ore.; brothers and sisters-in-law, Richard and Tami Castle of Carson City and John N. and Kelly Paxton of Reseda, Calif.; sisters Debra Paxton of Easley, S.C., and Vivian Paxton of Phoenix; sisters and brothers-in-law Nen and Narong Sajjadham of Lakewood, Calif., and Debbie and Neal Sprott of Minden; and 12 grandchildren.

Walton's Chapel of the Valley is in charge of arrangements.
