A former Nevada corrections officer was indicted Friday on one count of battery with the use of a deadly weapon causing substantial bodily harm.

Prison officials said Paul Chaffee was indicted by the Nevada Attorney General's Office on charges stemming from an incident in December.

The attorney general's office alleges Chaffee used excessive force against an inmate at High Desert State Prison, in Indian Springs, said Suzanne Pardee, public information officer for the department of corrections.

Chaffee has been on administrative leave since the incident and was terminated July 3 following the investigation by the attorney general's office.
