Thermador Ceramic Cooktops are being recalled because the cooking unit can activate by itself while it is turned off creating a fire hazard.

Residents with the recalled units should disconnect the cooktop at the circuit breaker when not in use and never leave anything on the cooktop when it is unattended.

Summer drivers' ed classes offered

Western Nevada Community College is offering more than a dozen hands-on Driver Education classes in Carson City, Fernley and Minden. The four-day, 30-hour classes will teach young drivers safe driving techniques through lectures, class discussion, guest speakers, and films.

Upcoming sessions at WNCC, Carson City, from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m., are today through Thursday, June 18-21, June 25-28, July 9-12, July 16-19, July 23-26, July 30-Aug. 2, 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. and Aug. 6-9.

At WNCC Fernley, 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m., June 18-21, July 16-19, July 30-Aug. 2 and Aug. 13-16.

WNCC Douglas, 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. June 25-28 and July 16-19.

To register for the noncredit classes, students must fill out the WNCC Community Education Admission Application at www.wncc.edu/drivereducation/ and then mail, fax or bring it in to WNCC Carson City, 2201 W. College Parkway.

Classes are open to anyone age 15 and older, and the Nevada Public Agency Insurance Pool, the Public Agency Compensation Trust, and State Farm Insurance all support the course. Cost is $105.

Vendors sought for fall memory walk

The Capital City Memory Walk, which will be held at the Capitol Grounds Sept. 29, is looking for craft and small business vendors to display their wares between 9 a.m.-noon. Tables will be provided and will cost $200, which will be donated to the Capital City Memory Walk, Northern Nevada Alzheimer's Association.

Kids' summer acting camp in Reno

During the month of June theater teacher Michael Maupin will run a two-week theater summer camp for children ages 11 to 15.

Maupin will introduce 20 to 25 kids to acting and the stage during this all day summer camp. Activities include improvisational games, audition workshops, tours of downtown theater facilities, introduction to voice and dance and production of a one-act play. Dates are June 11-15, 18-22; time, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.; cost is $400 (lunch provided); at the Masonic Temple auditorium, 40 W. First St. Call 224-1726.

Reno Rodeo switches dates

The new dates for the Reno Rodeo are June 15-23. Those who bought tickets prior to Aug. 11 with dates June 22Ð30, should contact the ticket office at the Lawlor Events Center, 784-4444, or mail them in to the Reno Rodeo office to get them exchanged.
