A memorial service for Clement Dwayne Blakney, 83, a longtime Carson City resident, will be at 1:30 p.m. July 1, in the Lutheran Church Activity Room, 1900 First St., Sparks.

Mr. Blakney died June 8, 2007, at this home. He was born June 5, 1924, in Portland, Ore., to Clement E. and Lucy Woelfer Blakney.

Before moving to Carson City, he lived in Portland.

He married Eleanor P. Palmer in 1947.

He attended Reed College in Portland and Oregon State College.

Mr. Blakney was a researcher in wood products and worked for Masonite Corp., later teaching at a community college. After moving to Nevada, he designed client-requested custom homes.

He enjoyed the mountains, streams and nature.

He was an enlisted officer in training in the U.S. Navy during World War II. At the close of the war, he left his post as a Naval Lt. in charge of a PT crash boat in Hawaii.

Among his survivors are his wife of Carson City; sons Charles of Chilcoot, Calif., and Clement of Unity, Maine; daughter Teresa Dickerson of Gardnerville; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Cremation will be at FitzHenry's Crematory.

Memorial contributions may be made to Mazama Mountaineering Center, 527 SE 43rd Ave., Portland, OR; or to the Boy Scouts of America.

FitzHenry's Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
