Carson City


Online graduate courses for teachers


The Nevada Post Secondary Education Committee has approved online 18-credit graduate program and three-credit graduate courses designed specifically for Nevada's teachers.


Produced by Knowledge Delivery Systems, Touro University Nevada and the Nevada Education Association, the online courses will enable Nevada teachers to earn graduate credit online to meet requirements for salary increases.


There are currently two 18-credit graduate programs, "Teaching in the 21st Century Differentiated Classroom" and "Closing the Achievement Gap through Standards-Based Curriculum." Each program consists of six three-credit courses that can be taken separately.


Credits are applicable toward Bachelors +18 or Masters +18, as well as salary increase and recertification. For more information, visit www.kdsi.org.




Cobb to address Republican women


The Carson City Republican Women will meet at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Carson Nugget, second floor, Room B. Guest speaker will be Assemblyman Ty Cobb. A buffet luncheon will be served at 11:30 a.m. Cost is $17. For reservations call Carolyn Knudson, 841-6146.




Performance singing classes at museum


Wild Horse Productions presents a special four-week workshop on performance singing conducted by professional vocalist and voice instructor Marsh Brodeur.


Students will learn how to sing for musicals, how to master the singing audition, how to perform for the camera and how to perform solos in a chorus setting.


Techniques covered will be projection, dynamics, playing to an audience, microphone technique, showmanship, stage etiquette, audition techniques, choosing appropriate material and breaking down and interpretation of a song.


Marsh Brodeur is a professional vocalist and has been performing around the country for over 20 years.


The workshop will be Tuesdays from June 19 through July 10 from 4-6 p.m. for ages 8-15 and 6:30-8:30 p.m. for ages 16 and up. Cost for the workshop is $175.

Dayton


Kick-boxing for ladies


Turbo kick-boxing for ladies is a free program held at 6:30 p.m. Mondays at The Connection Church in Dayton. Bring a water bottle. The Connection is in the Occidental Square Market across from Riverpark Estates, on the north side of Highway 50.
