Carson City

Airport Authority meets tonight

The Carson City Airport Authority will meet at 6 p.m. in the Sierra Room of the Carson City Community Center, 851 E. William St.

Topics include: status of the Heritage Hangars project; whether to allow a work trailer and signage at the Jet Ranch site; the Federal Aviation Administration's $5 million airport improvement grant; and, review and possible acceptance of contracts with various contractors to the airport and authority, including the airport manager, legal counsel, recording secretary and CPA-auditing firm.

Flapjack breakfast will benefit CHS marching band

Panithias Grill, corner of Winnie Lane and North Carson Street, is hosting a pancake breakfast with entertainment to help the CHS Blue Thunder Marching Band raise money for their Disneyland trip this fall. The breakfast will be from 8:30-11 a.m. Saturday. Entertainment will be provided by CHS band soloists, duets and trios.

Cost for adults is $6 and $3 for children. Tickets can be purchased before Saturday by calling 883-5600 or 884-3755 or at the door.

Dinner meeting today for American Society of Quality

The American Society of Quality monthly dinner meeting will be today at Mi Casa Too. Networking is at 5:30 p.m. and the dinner at 6. Cost is $10.

Stroke Screenings today at Silver Hills church

Carson City residents can be screened to reduce their risk of having a stroke or a serious bone fracture today at Silver Hills Community Church, 1066 Mallory Way. Appointments will begin at 10 a.m.

Screenings are fast, painless and low cost. They test for blocked carotid arteries, abdominal aorta aneurysms and hardening of the arteries in the legs. Bone density screening is also offered to assess the risk of osteoporosis.

All four screenings take less than an hour to complete. The complete wellness package is $129.

Democrats celebrate opening of new headquarters

The Douglas County Democratic Central Committee Is having the grand opening of its new headquarters from 5-7:30 p.m. Thursday, 1662 Highway 395, Minden.

There will be light refreshments, music, raffle prizes and special guests. Many of the Democratic presidential candidates will have representatives present.

Critter program at library

The Douglas County Public Library presents the Nature's Critters "Who Am I?" nature program with Julie Allen for a special appearance at 7 p.m. Thursday at Minden Park.

Nature's Critters is a fun, interactive program that informs and inspires people to understand and appreciate the world around them. Julie will bring her bugs, snakes, lizards, and other animal friends for a hands-on program that teaches the importance animals play in the survival of our planet. Young Chautauquans perform today, Thursday

The Douglas County Young Chautauquans will be perform at 5 p.m. today and Thursday at Mormon Station Park in Genoa. They will portray 15 characters in history, some you may not have ever heard of. For musical entertainment, Banjo Hall of Famer Georgette Twain will perform.
