The field of potential candidates for the Lyon County manager's job is down to two: Dennis Stark of Charlotte, Mich., and Jim Park of Douglas County are the top choices.

Human Resources Director Steve Englert earlier this month had asked each commissioner to rate their top two candidates and the two with the most votes would be asked back for private interviews with individual commissioners.

Stark received one second-place vote and four first-place votes, while Park received one first-place vote and two second-place votes. Ron Stock of Leesburg, Fla., received one first-place vote while David Childs of Dallas, Texas, received one second-place vote.

When Commissioner Bob Milz pointed out that there were six first-place votes cast by five commissioners, Larry McPherson admitted to putting down two first-place votes rather than a first and second choice.

Two other candidates, Jerry McKnight of Washoe County and Lionel "Lon" Bushey of Eagle River, Wisc., didn't receive any votes.

District Attorney Bob Auer said commissioners could meet individually with the candidates but cautioned them against sharing any information.

Commission Chairwoman Phyllis Hunewill said applications for manager were still being accepted, but no further interviews were planned while Park and Stark get their individual interviews.

The annual salary of the county manager position ranges from $95,344 to $120,434.

The job has been open since February, when the commissioners voted to fire Donna Kristaponis.

Bob Hadfield was appointed interim manager and has said he will continue in that capacity for as long as is necessary.
