Gov. Jim Gibbons has named longtime state environmental official Lew Dodgion chairman of the Nevada Environmental Commission.

He replaces Mel Close who resigned last year.

"He knows Nevada's environmental issues inside and out, from air to water to waste," said Gibbons.

Dodgion has been a member of the commission since 2004. Before that he was administrator of the Nevada Division of Environmental Protection until his retirement from state government.
