Schoolhouse groundbreaking Saturday

The groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the new Silver City Schoolhouse community center will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Silver City Park and schoolhouse site.

Archaeologist Ron Reno and town board president Erich Obermayr will speak at the event.

Invited are all five Lyon County Commission members, interim Lyon County manager Bob Hadfield, former county manager Donna Kristaponis, former commissioner Chet Hillyard, Gov. Jim Gibbons, former Gov. Kenny Guinn, U.S. Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev., U.S. Sen. John Ensign, R-Nev., U.S. Rep. Dean Heller, R-Nev., state Sen. Mark Amodei, Assemblyman Tom Grady, Joe Dini, Ron James, state Historic Preservation Officer, members of the Comstock Historical Society, Lula Kendall of Silver City, John Martin of Carson City and Lee Johnson of Sparks.

Silver City residents will be on hand and will hold a town potluck picnic in the park following the ceremony.
