BLM Hosting Women's History Month speaker


Nevada Supreme Court Justice Nancy Saitta will help commemorate Women's History Month at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Bureau of Land Management Field Office, 5665 Morgan Mill Road, as a guest speaker.


Saitta was elected in 2006. She began her judicial career as a Las Vegas Municipal Court Judge in 1996, and was elected to the Eighth Judicial District Court two years later. She served as a senior deputy attorney general where she was appointed as the Children's Advocate for the state before becoming a judge. She has been recognized with the District Attorney Outstanding Service Award, Angels in Adoption Award from the U.S. Congress, as an outstanding Child Advocate of the Year, and listed in the 2005 Top 500 Judges in America. Seniors may qualify for USDA food


Seniors 60 years of age or older may be eligible to receive a free box of food every month through the USDA's Commodities Supplemental Food Program. Income eligibility requirements are an annual gross income of $12,740 for a single household or $17,160 for a two-person household. Prospective clients need to supply a pay stub or bank statement, and a driver's license or state identification card, or two utility bills, lease agreements or rent receipts. Representatives from the Food Bank of Northern Nevada will be at the Douglas County Senior Center, 2300 Meadow Lane in Gardnerville, at 9 a.m. Monday to take registrations. Call 783-6455.
