Grunert wins meet for Carson

Matt Grunert won the individual title for the Carson High boys swim team in the "Aqua 5" mee held on Saturday at the Carson Aquatic Facility.

Swimmers from Carson, Fallon, McQueen, Galena and Spanish Springs competed in the 100-yard freestyle, the 100 breaststroke, the 100 backstroke, the 100 butterfly and the 50 free. Grunert was the overall champion for the boys while Garrett Clayton was third.

Grunert won three individual titles. He won the 100 free in 50.57 seconds while Kevin Dyer was second in 52.16. Grunert also led a 1-2-3 sweep in the 100 back as he won in 59.03. Alex Updegrove was second in 1:00.60 and Dyer was third in 1:00.92.

In addition, Grunert won the 50 free in 23.73 while Dyer was third in 23.97. Clayton won the 100 breaststroke in 1:04.04 while Grunert was third in 1:08.03.

Dyer led a 1-2-3 sweep in the 100 fly as he won in 58.48. Updegrove was second and Jacob Cornwell was third.

For the girls, Julie Asire won the 100 free in 56.55 and was third in the 50 free in 26.53. Despite the fact that her strength is in the longer distances, Carson's Tatum Boehnke was fifth overall for the girls.
