A rosary will be said for John Harvey Neill, 71, a 60-year Smith Valley resident, 6 p.m. Thursday at St. John's Catholic Church in Smith. A funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Friday at the Holy Family Catholic Church, 37 N. West St. in Yerington. Burial will follow at the Hillcrest Cemetery in Smith with a reception following burial.

Mr. Neill was born Jan. 24, 1936, in North Hollywood, Calif.

He earned a degree in animal science from Colorado State University. He went into ranching and farming, and later went to work for the U.S. Department of Agriculture and was the county executive director of FSA in Minden.

He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, spending time with friends and family, playing guitar and singing country western songs.

Among his survivors are his daughters and sons-in-law Susan and Ron, Theresa and Louie, and Cathy and Eric; son and daughter-in-law John and Susie, and nine grandchildren.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Association.

Freitas Rupracht Funeral Home in Yerington is in charge of arrangements.
