Brewery to host multi-media drum show


The Brewery Arts Center and Drumchik Productions present Durga: Goddess of the Drum, performing at the Brewery Arts Center Friday through Sunday. This multi-media production features six dancers and live drum performances, film, sound-tracking, and narration.


Durga: Goddess of the Drum depicts one woman's journey on the drum from ancient times through modern day. Durga: Goddess of the Drum, will appear Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m.; and Sunday at 2 p.m. in the Performance Hall at 511 West King St. Guitarist Wesley Orsolic will open the show by performing songs from his new album "Now and Then."

USDA food distribution Friday


The USDA Commodity food distribution will be from 9-11 a.m. Friday at the Carson City Community Center, 851 E. William St. This months' commodity foods are great northern beans, spaghetti, sweet potatoes, instant milk, diced tomatoes, canned tuna, applesauce and cranberry juice. Any needy family in Carson City can be eligible. The household must sign a sheet certifying that their household's annual income does not exceed 150 percent of the federal poverty guidelines; $14,700 for a single and $19,800 for a double. No proof of income is required, only photo identification. For information, call 688-2828.


St. Teresa to hold Lenten soup supper


St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Community will hold a Lenten soup supper from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Friday, before Stations of the Cross at 7, in Chartz Hall. The church is at 3000 N. Lompa Lane. The supper is sponsored by the Women's Society (Ladies Guild). Menus includes soup in a bread bowl, choice of clam chowder, potato cheese or vegetable soup, freshly baked cookies and beverage. Cost is $6 for adults and $2.50 for children; ages 6-younger are free. Tickets are sold after each Mass or will be available at the door. For information, call 882-1968.


Sertoma Club to hold 'Men's Night Out'


The Carson Sertoma Club's annual Wild Game Feed: Men's Night Out is at 6:30 p.m. Friday at the Carson City Senior Citizens Center, 911 Beverly Drive. The event is a fundraiser for children of Carson City with speech and hearing problems, diabetes and cancer. Cost is $20 per person; door prize is a new shotgun. The evening includes many drawings as well as The Bud Girls. For tickets, information, call 841-6565 or 885-7579.

Gin Blossoms to play at Hard Rock Cafe


Hard Rock Cafe Lake Tahoe has undergone a memorabilia overhaul, with dozens of new items commemorating the history of rock. To celebrate, hit band Gin Blossoms opens tonight with a live performance. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Animal Coalition of Tahoe and Pet Network. Gin Blossoms will donate a Fender Toronado electric guitar used during its U.S. tour in 2004 and 2005. The band will also meet with fans and sign autographs. Doors open at 9 p.m. and admission is by a $10 gift at the door. Visit www.hardrock.com for details.
