The California Department of Fish and Game (DF&G) held a checkpoint on each side of Davis Lake, north of Portola, last Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

DF&G game wardens at those checkpoints were checking for any illegal transportation of Northern Pike from that lake.

A total of 139 fishermen were checked and they had a 100 percent compliance with the current regulations regarding Pike. 14 of the anglers had caught Pike, killed them and returned the dead fish to the lake, as required by the new DF&G regulations.

Overall, that day, fishing was very slow with only a total of 5 trout being reported as caught.

There was one citation for fishing without a license.
