Come this weekend, the streets of Carson City won't be safe for city folk.
The normally safe streets of the capital city will be transformed to the wild west town of its youth, some 150 years ago.
The city's historic district will live up to its name on Saturday, when history takes center stage on the streets during the annual Wild West Tour of the Kit Carson Trail.
The annual event is put on by the Carson City Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Carson City Redevelopment Agency.
The theme for 2007 is "The Age of Invention," with a focus on the many inventions, both great and well, not so great, that have occurred in Nevada.
Visitors take a tour around downtown, led by a guide chock full of information, and will meet several of the inventors themselves, who will be making appearances from the grave.
"We are looking to showcase and capitalize on all the things that have been invented in Nevada," said event coordinator Joy Evans.
The event features actors from the Brüka Theater in Reno who research the personalities they are playing to make sure the dress and information is correct.
This year, the ghosts will include Charles August Fey, who invented the Liberty Bell slot machine and Lola Montress, who brought the first tour group to Virginia City.
Evans said the committee searches for new ways to highlight the history of the area.
"We look for something we haven't done before to keep it lively and fresh and still share the history," Evans said.
The event begins at 10 a.m. at the Nevada State Museum courtyard. Tours start every 30 minutes with the last tour leaving at 2 p.m.
"For anyone coming to town it's great to show them our history. We have a great historic district and we don't get to show it off every often," Evans said.
Tour stops include several historic homes, the Nevada State Museum and the Brewery Arts Center.
All of the money generated from the tour is used to fund the event the following year.
Annual themed walks include the Ghost Walk in late October and the Victorian Home Christmas Tour in early December.
