Zach Shell, an eighth grader at Virginia City Middle School, was the dominant athlete in taking the overall title at the Yerington Hex Track Meet on Wednesday.

Athletes from Fallon, Fernley, Virginia City, Yerington, Dayton and Silver Stage competed in the meet. Athletes compete in six events in the meet: Shot put, high jump, 75-meter hurdles, 100, 400 and 1,600.

During the season, Shell took first in several events, including the long jump, high jump, triple jump and shot put. Shell maintained a 3.81 grade point average while participating in baseball and basketball. He plans to play for Virginia City High School's new eight-man football team when he enters the school as a freshman this fall.
