A memorial service for third-generation Carson Valley rancher Arthur Arnold Settelmeyer Jr., 67, will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Gardnerville.

A reception will follow the service at the CVIC Hall in Minden. A private funeral service will be held at a later date.

Mr. Settelmeyer died May 22, 2007, at the family ranch. He was born Jan. 15, 1940, in Palo Alto, Calif., to Arthur Arnold and Grace Settelmeyer of Gardnerville. He graduated from Douglas County High School in 1958. He attended Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo, Calif., where he majored in agricultural engineering technology.

Mr. Settelmeyer served as president of the Federal Land Bank for 10 years and was a member of the Carson Valley Conservation District, the Water Subconservancy District, the Douglas County Water Conveyance Advisory Committee and Nevada State Conservation Commission.

He was a founding member of the Douglas County Education Foundation and was named Man of the Year by the 20-30 Club.

He served two terms on the Douglas County School Board. He was elected in 1976 and served until 1984.

He is survived by wife, Patricia; son James and wife Sherese, daughter Annalyn Settelmeyer and husband Eric Rieman; grandchildren Rosealee Rieman, Caitlyn Costa and Sabrina Settelmeyer; and sister Honor Jones of Reno.
