Carson City


Reservations needed for historical society meeting


The Carson City Historical Society will host its annual membership drive on June 10 at the Tahoe Ridge Winery.


Event includes buffet, wine tasting and tour of Van Sickle Station Ranch. Cost is $25. Reservations must be made by Friday by calling Janet, 884-1448.


Information regarding addresses, time and location of tour and dinner will be provided when making reservations. Space is limited, and payment for reservation must be made in advance.


Wine bistro to host British comedian


At 6 p.m. Thursday, D'Vine Wine & Bistro will focus on John Cleese, the famous British comedian, in a special DVD presentation titled "Wine for the Confused." Laugh your way through a hilarious, but informative, session on a) how to find wines that taste good to you; b) how to get the best value; and c) how to keep wines at home. The program is free.


Air show, breakfast at Carson Airport


Wings Over Carson 2007 will be 8 a.m.- 4 p.m. June 2 at the Carson City Airport. The free day of activities will include fly-bys, Warbirds, static displays WWII to present, a climbing wall, homebuilt and experimental aircraft and much more. A pancake breakfast will be served from 8-11 a.m. For information call 887-1234.


Teen who died last year remembered


Family and friends will be remembering Jeremy Michael Bruce Woolman, 13, at a prayer gathering at 1 p.m. today at the Dayton Cemetery.


Jeremy is remembered for his love of sports, acting and his desire to help people. The "apple" of his mother's eye, Jeremy died a year ago today at Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center.


He was born June 11, 1992, in Reno, to Andra Woolman. He was attending Silver Stage Middle School in Silver Springs. He leaves behind his mother of Stagecoach; brothers John Benjamin Chance Woolman of Stagecoach and Jason Daniel Ryan Woolman of Carson City and numerous extended-family members and friends. His mother said "Jeremy was a friend to all, and would always provide a sympathetic listening ear to whomever needed to be heard."

See inline engine cars


The Northern Nevada Chapter of the Inliners International car club will holding its annual event June 2 and 3 at the Minden Park on Sixth Street.


Inliners will be the only featured group of vehicles at the Minden Spring Festival. The Inliners International event is open to the public for viewing of the largest gathering of inline engine cars in Nevada.


Inliner cars of all types, along with some special interest race vehicles will be on display.

Virginia City


Heroes honored in VC


Virginia City will celebrate Memorial Day with a Celebration of Heroes Parade down C Street beginning at noon today. Grand marshal Bill Avansino of Virginia City will lead the way in a special salute to Vietnam Veterans. Avansino was a U.S. Marine Corps. radioman in Vietnam for two tours of duty that included the Tet Offensive. He was in the battle of Hue and also served in battles at Khe Sanh and Dong Ha. He will ride in a red Mustang convertible driven by Bill Person of Virginia City, also a Navy veteran of the Vietnam War. Call 847-0311 for an entry form, or be at the Fourth Ward School on the south end of C Street at 11 a.m. for the line-up.
