Tigersharks' Dyer contends for high-point trophy

Kevin Dyer of the Carson Tigersharks is in good position to swim off with the high-point trophy for his boys 15-18 age group coming into the final day of the annual Intermountain Classic Memorial Day Weekend Age Group Open today.

Dyer holds a slim edge over two Bend, Ore., swimmers in the points standings for the boys 15-18 division after three days of competition in a meet being hosted by the Tigersharks at the Carson City Aquatic Facility.

The meet has brought nearly 400 age group swimmer from Nevada, California and Oregon. Competition this morning is scheduled to start at 8:30.

Dyer, a 16-year-old sophomore at Carson High School, has compiled 43 points toward the high-point trophy - two points better than Nathan Losch and Mason Allen, both of Bend. Another Carson Tigershark, Ryan Hogan, is sixth in the boys 15-18 standings with 29 points.

Carson also has a pair of swimmers battling for top-10 positions in the girls 15-18 age group high-point race: Tatum Boehnke and Julie Asire. Boehnke is tied for fifth in the standings with 21 points, while Asire is close behind in eighth with 19 points.

Grace Tarka of the Fog City Hammerheads leads the girls 15-18 high-points race by a 44-40 margin over Madison Gray. Just two weeks ago, Tarka set a Peninsula Athletic League record for Westmoor High School (Daly City, Calif.) with her time of 58.30 in the 100 butterfly.

One other Carson swimmer in the top-10 is Stella Carroll, who is 10th in the girls 8-and-under standings.

Reno Aquatic leads in the race for top team honors with 797 points, followed by Spare Time Aquatics of Sacramento with 419, the Santa Rosa Neptunes with 379 and Bend with 371. The Tigersharks are seventh with 174 points.

Note: The Pacific Swimming Web site (http://www.pacswim.org) reports that swimmers J.J., Josh and Justin Koudelka and their father Joseph Koudelka of Nampa, Idaho, died in a collision Friday night while traveling to this weekend's meet in Carson City. They were members of the Nampa Swim Team of the Snake River LSC.
