A Yerington man died Tuesday after he was beaten unconscious during a fight Monday night in Mason Valley, authorities said.

Robert Brian Upton, 33, died about 2 p.m. at a Reno hospital, said Lyon County Sheriff's Sgt. Brian Veil.

According to Veil, Lyon County deputies were called to 449 First Ave. in Mason Valley about 9:32 p.m. Monday on the report of a fight.

When officers arrived they found Upton unconscious in the backyard. He was taken from the scene by helicopter.

Tenant Corey Warren, 23, has been arrested in the assault on Upton. Veil said it is unclear if any type of weapon was used, but it appears the men were engaged in mutual combat at some point.

He declined to say what prompted the fighting at what appeared to be a gathering of friends.

Warren was initially booked into the Lyon County Jail on suspicion of battery causing substantial bodily harm. Veil said the charges will be changed to reflect Upton's death.
