Retired guardsmen to be honored

The military service and dedication of retired Nevada National Guard soldiers and airmen will be 10 a.m. Sunday at the Office of the Adjutant General, 2460 Fairview Dr. The event will include a retiree ceremony honoring the Nevada Army Guard's 2007 retirees at 1:30 p.m.

The day's events will include a Fallon Naval Air Station commissary lot sale, a Morale, Welfare and Recreation ticket sale, identification card and defense enrollment eligibility updates. Call 887-7328.

Senior center holding dance tonight

The Carson City Senior Citizens Center will celebrate November with a dance 7-10 p.m. today. Dance to the music of the "Joe Rossi Band." Dance lessons will be provided by Thane Cornell 6-7 p.m. Cost of the dance is $6 per person. There will be a no-host bar and refreshments. Call 883-0703.

Celtic artist Ball coming to museum

Wild Horse Productions and the Children's Museum of Northern Nevada bring Celtic harpist and storyteller Patrick Ball to Carson City.

Ball will bring his new solo theater piece, "The Fine Beauty of the Island" for one show 7:30 p.m. today at the Children's Museum of Northern Nevada, 813 N. Carson St.

Tickets are $15 for general public and $12 for students and members of the Children's Museum and or Wild Horse Productions. Tickets can be purchased at the museum or at 887-0438 or at www.wildhorsetheater.com.

Cardiac, pulmonary wellness fair today

A cardiac and pulmonary wellness fair will be 9 a.m.-3 p.m. today at 1122 S. Carson St. (north end of Carson Mall). Free blood pressure, oxygen saturation, heart rate and spirometry testing for those that qualify.

Muscle-Powered ride set today

Muscle-Powered will lead a 16 -mile bicycle ride 10 a.m. Saturday, at Bowers Mansion County Park in Washoe Valley. Intermediate riders are invited. Bikes must be in good working condition. Helmets required. Water bottles, patch kits and pumps recommended. You must be a Muscle-Powered member to participate, membership available at starting point.

Comet 17P/Holmes viewing at WNC

The general public is invited to Western Nevada College's Jack C. Davis Observatory to view Comet 17P/Holmes after dusk on Saturday evenings.

The comet is between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter. Admission is free.

DAWG seeks home for dogs for the holidays

Make a homeless dog thankful this Thanksgiving holiday by adopting a new pet.

Douglas Animal Welfare Group's adoption event is 10 a.m.-4 p.m. today at the Douglas County Animal Shelter, 921 Pinenut Road in Gardnerville, across from the fairgrounds.

Each adoption will include a free spay or neuter, free microchip, free dog food and free pet training.
