120 YEARS AGO


The Central Nevadan newspaper didn't publish last week due to a number of unfortunate circumstances. The editor-in-chief was in California on important business: The compositor was sick and in this locality it is hard to procure a printer on short notice; the press was out of repair; and last, but not least, the editor's substitute was not equal to the task of successfully combating so many misfortunes, and so let things go.


100 YEARS AGO


The Churchill County Bank in Fallon closed its doors temporarily Wednesday morning after the county treasurer withdrew $20,000 of the county's money from the bank. The board of directors state that the bank is all right, but will remain closed until necessary coin can be obtained.


70 YEARS AGO


Kucula White Feather, well known Indian, has returned to Fallon following several months in Hollywood, where he was employed in several pictures made by the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios, reports the Fallon Eagle. A year ago White Feather with other Indians worked in "Rose Marie," a picture with Nelson Eddie and Jeannette McDonald. That picture was filmed at Lake Tahoe.


50 YEARS AGO


The best place to hide stolen loot is in the county courthouse. Two packages of costume jewelry, believed to have been hidden for more than two years were found by Ormsby County sheriff's officers behind the bathtub at the courthouse over the weekend. Officers were tipped off by an Elko dealer who heard about the "loot" from a man he lent $10 to.


20 YEARS AGO


Carson City's School District received high marks for finance in the 1986-87 fiscal audit report. The district checked in with a balance of $61.6 million in assets for the fiscal year, a jump of $11 million over the 1986 audit statement.


10 YEARS AGO


Highlighted in Alan Roger's Street Talk column is an article on belly dancer Yolanda Garcia, who has been belly dancing for the past 24 years.
