Account set up for family of boy who died in fire


An account has been set up at Nevada State Bank for the family of 9-year-old Patrick Ryea, who died Friday night in a shed fire in South Carson City.


The bank is at the corner of Clearview Drive and South Carson Street under account No. 0598015337.




Artists reception, Youth Jazz today at Comma Coffee


Backseat Gallery hosts an art reception for artist of the month Elaine Bard 5-7 tonight at Comma Coffee, 312 S. Carson St. The Jazz for Youth concert follows 7-7:30 p.m.


Talk on 'Voces Latinas' exhibit


The Nevada State Museum presents a gallery talk on its "Voces Latinas" exhibit by guest curator Ann M. Wolfe noon today in the South Changing Gallery. The museum is open 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. daily. Visitors enter on Robinson Street.

Carson City Democrats meet


Carson City Democrats will meet at 7 p.m. today at the State of Nevada Employees Association conference room, 709 E. Robinson St.


Guests include Matt Griffin from the Nevada Secretary of State office, Alan Glover, Carson City's clerk-recorder, and Deidre Des Jardins of "Peace Action West," who will speak on the differences between presidential candidates' positions on Iraq, Iran and Nuclear weapons.

Diabetes Health Fair offers free testing


The 10th Diabetes Health Fair sponsored by Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center will be 10 a.m.-2 p.m. today at the Carson Mall. Learn what's new in diabetes care and take advantage of free blood pressure checks, blood glucose testing. A1c testing is available for $30 and flu shots are available for $25.

Jorgees Exotic Arts & Imports will host an Open House 6-9 p.m. today to benefit the Carson City Library Foundation. Music will be provided by "The Hot Two," featuring old time swing jazz. Refreshments. Hors d'oeuvres will be served.

Douglas County


Dinner to benefit Douglas teen


There will be a benefit today to assist the family of David Philips with medical expenses as he undergoes rehabilitation at a hospital in Houston, Texas.


The 18-year-old Douglas High School student is being treated for complications from a heroin overdose Aug. 11.
