Sportsmen's organization to hold end-of-year banquet

This is an annual reminder of a fun-filled event coming in the near future to Carson City.

The Ormsby Sportsmen's Association (OSA), a local organization for hunters and fishermen, will hold its big, end-of-the-year banquet on Saturday, Dec. 1.

Banquet info:

That banquet, which annually attracts about 125-150 attendees, will be held at the Carson Nugget in its Convention Center.

The evening will begin with a no-host cocktail hour at 5:30 p.m., followed by a buffet dinner at 6:30.

The cost is $25 per person.

You can send your money in early or you can pay at the door that evening. Either way, let OSA know ASAP, as they need to provide the head-count to the Nugget.

It will be a fun-filled evening of food, drinks, door prizes, raffles, live auctions, introductions, serious presentations, "burn awards," and a "Skin's Drawing."

PRIZES:

The door prizes, raffle prizes, regular auction items and special auction items will include such items as: All kinds of framed wildlife artwork. Fly tying class for one person. Dinner show and overnight stay at Harrah's-South Lake Tahoe. Overnight stay in a cabin at the Carson River Resort. Fishing trip for two in May at Stampede Reservoir. Fishing trip for two at North Lake Tahoe. Fishing trip for two at South Lake Tahoe. Dinner for two at the Carson Station Hotel/Casino. Camping box with Coleman stove, plates, cups and utensils. Gift baskets. Set of pictorial history books of this area. Granite Lazy Susan's. Granite carving boards. And much more!

Presentations:

The serious presentations will include: Fishing Awards by categories such as the largest cutthroat trout, Mackinaw trout, rainbow trout and Walleye.

The burn awards include: "The You Screwed Up" award for the member, who is voted on at the banquet, as having screwed up the worst during the year.

The "Sure Shot" award goes to the member who fired the most shots during the last hunting seasons. The all-time record is held by an archer who fired more than 20 arrows without success.

The "Skin's Drawing" is a cash prize ($240) awarded only if you are a paid-up member and if you are present at the banquet.

Elections:

Also included on the evening's agenda will be the introduction of the club's newly-elected president and the 2008 board of directors.

The individual who received the most votes on the November ballots will serve as club president for 2008. The candidates for president were these returning board members: Jerry Dyke, Mike Fettic, Don Quilici and George Wilkerson.

The three outgoing directors are: John Evans, Mike Gower and Bob McCulloch.

OSA Info:

This will be the last official OSA function of 2007.

The next OSA regular monthly meeting will also be held at the Carson Nugget, beginning at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 15.

OSA meets on the third Tuesday of each month for the months of January-May, has outdoor picnics in June-September and is back indoors in October and November.

There is no regular meeting in December.

All OSA meetings, functions and activities are free of charge (except the annual banquet) and open to all club members and to anyone else interested in the outdoors, hunting, fishing, camping, etc.

Among the club's various activities throughout the year are meetings, picnics, the annual banquet, "Adopt A Highway," and involvement with the Carson Valley Chukar Club, Ducks Unlimited (both the Carson City and Carson Valley Chapters), Nevada Wildlife Federation, Mule Deer Foundation, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation and Sierra Retriever Club.

The OSA annual membership dues are $5 for adults and $2 for youngsters under the age of 16.

Heck, you could join OSA for $5, go the banquet for $25 and then win the "Skins Drawing" for $240.

If he grins and replies, "It is Andy Gotelli, who will be 98 on Dec. 11, and he served as president in 1975," he could be a longtime member of OSA.
