Misfits present holiday show

Riverview holds first Christmas concert Thursday
Riverview Elementary School will present its Christmas concert at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in its multipurpose room, 1200 Feretto Parkway.
Students from kindergarten through fifth grade will perform classic Christmas carols and familiar tunes like "Jingle Bell Rock," "Silver Bells," "Frosty the Snowman" and "Winter Wonderland."
Kindergarten through second grade will perform from 6:30-7 p.m., followed by a 20-minute intermission then the third through fifth grades will perform from 7:30-8 p.m.

Irish show at Oats Park Art Center
Churchill Arts Council will present two performances by Téada, of Ireland, and special guests at 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. Saturday at the Oats Park Art Center, 151 E. Park St., Fallon.
Tickets are $17 for CAC members, $20 for nonmembers, $10 for children/students and are available at 423-1440. Doors open an hour before show time. There will be a no-host art bar at each event and CAC's galleries will be open.
Lions club seeking food donations
The Fernley-Wadsworth Lions Club and the VFW Post and Auxiliary 10247 are holding an annual Christmas Food Basket Drive that will ensure families in need enjoy a holiday feast.
The Lions Club will be collecting nonperishable food items in the Scolari's parking lot on from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
Residents that wish to sign up for a food basket are encouraged to stop by Brim's from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Luminaria set for Sunday
Silver Springs Entertainment and Arts will hold its annual Luminaria at 5 p.m. Sunday at the Silver Springs Senior Center.
SSEA members create a lighted path to a manger scene on the grounds where the Christmas story will be read.
Children up to age 13 will receive a gift and a stocking from Santa. Refreshments will be served
Clampers, Widders in holiday food drive
E. Clampus Vitus and the Widders of Nevada are seeking donations for the group's eighth annual Holiday Food and Toy Drive.
The ECV and Widders need nonperishable food items, toys and cash for their drive.

Library holds Christmas open house
Silver Stage Library will hold its Christmas Open House from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday. Themed gift baskets will be raffled off and Santa will visit. Refreshments will be served.
Angel Tree adoption program
Angel tree ornaments for the Angel Tree adoption program sponsored by Community Chest Inc. are in the Virginia City Post Office and Hillside Elementary School.
The ornaments have wishes of people in the county who need holiday gifts.
Donors can take an angel off the tree, purchase the items listed, wrap and label them, and return them to the tree. Call 847-9311.
Cowboys Christmas show at Piper's
David John and the Comstock Cowboys will perform their annual "Christmas in the Sierra" production at Piper's Opera House at 4 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Saturday.
Tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for seniors and veterans and $12 for children younger than 12. There are also eight seats in the stage boxes for $30 each.

Tramp miner's life becomes book
The true-life escapades of the late tramp miner Billy Varga, who called himself "the last hard-rock miner," are told in a new book by his wife, Melody Varga Quenemoen, and Kristen Bachler.
The authors will sign their book from noon-3 p.m. Saturday at the Mark Twain Bookstore, 111 South C Street, Virginia City.
St. Mary's Art Center to host wine tasting
St. Mary's Art Center will offer the Twisted Vine Holiday Wine Tasting at 4 p.m. Saturday.
All proceeds benefit programming at the newly renovated and redecorated SMAC Art and Retreat Center in historic Virginia City
The event is being organized by Anthony Kingland of Appellation Wine Co. of Reno.
Tickets are available for a donation of $25 for individuals and $45 for couples and can be purchased by calling the center at 847-7774.
Theater Muckers present 'The Tempest'
The Virginia City High School Theater Muckers will perform William Shakespeare's "The Tempest' for their fall 2007 production. "The Tempest" is believed to be the last play written solely by Shakespeare.
The play will be performed at 7 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday in the Virginia City High School commons.
Tickets are $10 for adults; $7 for students and children younger than 12.
'Nutcracker' ballet tickets on sale
The Reno Dance Company's "Hometown Nutcracker," sponsored by the Through A Child's Eye Foundation with support from the Nevada Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts, will be performed at 2 and 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the Dini Center for the Performing Arts in Yerington.
