Carson City

College to show pottery exhibit

"Pyrotechniques II," an interplay of form, surface and fire by Joe Winter, will be on display in the Main Gallery at Western Nevada College's Bristlecone Building from Monday through Nov. 9. The art exhibit features four different firing techniques: Raku, gas-fired stoneware, wood-fired stoneware, and wood-fired salt glazed stoneware.

This exhibit includes a recent collaboration between Winter and Greg Adams, a musician and instrument collector.

An artist's reception in the gallery will be 4:30-6 p.m. Oct. 15. Winter will demonstrate his techniques for throwing and Raku glazing at a workshop in Aspen 213, the WNC ceramics studio, following the reception. Call 445-3000.

Computer classes focus on seniors

Introduction to Computers will be Oct. 9 - Nov. 1 at the Carson City Senior Citizens Center. Classes are from 1-3 p.m. each Tuesday and Thursday. This class is designed for the beginning student and includes basic skills and introductory work on e-mail and the Internet. Cost is $40 including all materials.

An Intermediate Computer class is scheduled from 9-11 a.m. Oct. 15-31. This class is designed for students with basic computer skills. Cost is $30 including all materials.

Sparks

27 tribes gather for council convention

The Inter-Tribal Council of Nevada Inc. will partner up with 27 tribes within Nevada to host the 42nd annual ITCN Convention Monday through Thursday.

The convention, inside John Ascuaga's Nugget, 1100 Nugget Ave. in Sparks, will feature 27 tribal leaders, various workshops/seminars to better the American Indian communities, crafts, local vendors, a separate youth conference, including a dance.

Douglas County

Games, lunch today at senior center

Douglas County Senior Center monthly potluck lunch will be 11 a.m. today at the Douglas County Senior Center. The theme for this month's Young at Heart Potluck is the October Fest. Bring a dish that will serve eight people. The lunch will be followed by card and board games. Contact 783-6455.

Fashion show to benefit Family Support Council

Cowboys and Angels Boutique and Day Spa will host a fashion show at 1 p.m. on today at David Walley's Resort.

The latest in fall and holiday fashions will be modeled by women from the community. Dr. Joe Hillbrick, a board certified physician, will give an anti-aging presentation during the event.

Tickets are on sale for $15 each, and must be purchased in advance. Tickets may be picked up at the Cowboys and Angels Boutique and Day Spa. No tickets available at the door.

Light refreshments and champagne will be served and proceeds from the event will benefit the Family Support Council. Call 782-4045.

The regular monthly meeting of the Young at Heart Senior Citizens Club Board of Trustees will be 9:30 a.m. Monday at the Douglas County Senior Center.
