The Carson Tahoe Regional Healthcare Auxiliary will hold its October meeting and luncheon tomorrow. The theme will be Nevada Day and Cancer Awareness Month. Guy Rocha, Nevada State Archivist and possessor of a wealth of historical information, is the guest speaker. Guy is captivating when he speaks, don't miss this program.
The CTRHA is an all-volunteer, nonprofit, charitable organization whose purpose is to render assistance through public activities and fundraising in support of the regional medical center. It provides nursing scholarships and regional health care needs. If you are interested in supporting the group and working with a group of wonderful people, please join them in doing some amazing things for our local hospital.

Mile High Jazz Band with guest vocalist Jakki Ford presents "Autumn Jazz," a program of big-band jazz that will include five trumpets, four trombones, five saxophones, keyboard, bass and drums. They will play about 20 tunes from their repertoire of more than a hundred selections in the style of Basie, Ellington, and more contemporary arrangers. Known for her vocal range and stylistic versatility, Jakki Ford is a frequent performer in area showrooms and at special events. Don't forget your dancing shoes.

Once in awhile you read something and go, "No way! That can't be true," but with this next fundraiser not only can I say it's the truth - I can guarantee it.
The Carson City School District has an average of 370-450 homeless children enrolled in the district. This Saturday you can help them receive food. Empire Ranch Golf Course, Casino Fandango, The Carson Nugget, Tires Plus, Atlantis Casino, Michael's Cycles and the Eagle Valley Men's Club are helping host the first "Food for Thought" putting contest. All of the proceeds go directly back to feed the children.
This program is designed to make sure a child has some food to take home on weekends.
Yes children do qualify for the federal morning and lunch programs, so five days a week they are getting two meals a day. But on the weekend they go "home" to motels and hotels with what? Nothing.
I have heard it all, from that's not our problem, to maybe their parents should quit doing drugs and sometimes you are right, but I also believe there are the parents who work and still can't get by. I also think I would never punish a child for being in a very unfortunate situation. So get those golf clubs and come down and putt to help feed the children.

Donation: You can also bring food items if you cannot golf. Remember when purchasing the food that most motel/hotel do not have way to heat up items or the ability to cook. Items like bread, peanut butter, jelly, tuna fish, granola bars, pudding packs and fruit are always a favorite.

The "Radical Fashion Show and Benefit Dinner," the climax of the Capital City Arts Initiative's four-part Radical Fashion project, is a benefit event featuring a fashion show, dinner, and art silent auction. Milan del Vecchio, one of my favorite up-and-coming designers will be there. She graduated as salutatorian from Carson High School in 2005 and is currently enrolled in the University of Cincinnati's School of Design, Architecture and Art.
This summer she completed an internship at Jimmy Z in Manhattan. One of her pieces for the show is a red dress originally inspired by "Lady Cottington's Book of Pressed Fairies." I have always said she will hit the big time, so come see Milan and get in on the ground floor of her amazing talent. Others featured will be Kodi Fujii from Douglas High School, Lindsey Jackson and Claire Ponn. All these designers are outstanding and this event is sure to be fun for everyone who loves style and fashion. If you have daughters or granddaughters don't miss taking them to this event. It could be where dreams begin.
