ROSEBURG, ORE. - The supermodified racing teams of Dale Lamborn and S&S Motorsports of Carson City each were trying to find the right setup for Douglas County Speedway in Roseburg, Ore., Saturday. After the 40-lap main event, all were scratching their heads trying to figure out what happened.

"My car was OK in hot laps, but we made some bad choices before the main to try to go faster," Lamborn said. "We suffered extremely for it. It was evil."

"My car was good for a while in the main," said Troy Regier, driver of the No. 98 S&S Motorsports ride. "Then after that caution flag on lap 27, I just lost it. The car got really tight."

The main event featured 14 cars; nine supermodifieds and five sprint cars. Lamborn won the first heat, with Ernie Coppo finishing second, Rick Veenstra third and Regier fourth. Bryan Warf won the second heat with Kyler Barraza finishing second and Matt Hein third.

Regier was the third-fast qualifier for the night, which put him in the sixth starting position in the main event; Lamborn was ninth and lined up 11th.

Steve Shaw, co-owner with Tom Silsby of the No. 98, said they are still working to figure out setups on the new chassis, built by Silsby prior to this racing season.

"It's still work in progress," Shaw said. "It has been difficult (finding the right setup), but all we can do is continue to work on it and try get it right."

Winning the main event was Barraza of Myrtle Creek, Ore.; Regier was second and Jim Birges of Fresno, Calif., third. Rounding out the field were: Bobby Dalton of San Martin, Calif., Andy Alberding of Roseburg, Hein of Roseburg, Bryan Warf of Meridian, Idaho, Coppo of Clovis, Calif., Lamborn, Martin McKeefery of Milpitas, Calif., Veenstra, of Emmett, Idaho, Gary Davis of Salem, Ore., Jim Pasquin of Salt Lake City, and Nick Tomlinson of Newburg, Ore.
