Carson City


League of Women Voters education reform forum today


A Forum on Education Reform 6:30-8 p.m. today at the Governor's Mansion, 606 N. Mountain St.


Focus will be on the lack of funds for schools and the ineffectiveness of No Child Left Behind. Teachers hope the next election will bring people into office who care about children enough to make Education a top priority.


This event is being sponsored by the Northern Nevada League of Woman Voters. This discussion is meant to help determine what needs to be done to make our schools more effective


The event is free. Light refreshments will be served.




Lecture focuses on history of Virginia and Carson cities


The Carson City Historical Society will present a lecture on Virginia City 7 p.m. Thursday at the Carson City Library, 900 N. Roop St.


Bert Bedeau, district administrator for the Comstock Historic District Commission will present "Reflections of Carson CityƐVirginia City: From Dead Mining Town to Live Tourist Trap." The lecture is free.


Douglas County


'The Hanging of Lucky Bill' topic of presentation


The Douglas County Historical Society's Lecture Series continues 7 p.m. Thursday presenting Michael Makley, author of "The Hanging of Lucky Bill" at the Carson Valley Museum in Gardnerville, 1477 Highway 395 North.


Makley grew up in the Sierra Nevada, not far from where Lucky Bill was murdered.

Democratic Central Committee to meet


The Douglas County Democratic Central Committee will meet 7 p.m. Thursday at the headquarters, 1662 Highway 395, Suite 105, Minden. All Democrats are urged to attend. Call 450-9681.




Assemblyman Cobb will speak to GOP


Douglas County Republican Central Committee will meet 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Judicial Building on Buckeye Road, second Floor.

Conservative goals focus of conference


The 2007 Conservative Leadership Conference will be Thursday through Saturday at John Ascuaga's Nugget in Sparks.
