Exhibitors, speakers sought for CHS career fair

Carson High School is looking for exhibitors for its first-ever "Your Future's so Bright Day" career fair Oct. 17.

The deadline to sign up as a speaker or as an exhibitor is Friday.

A variety of activities is planned for this day, including presentations by business and industry members representing 16 "career cluster" areas and the career fair.

Learn about Catholicism at initiation for adults

Perhaps you wonder why Catholics do what they do. Or perhaps you've considered becoming a Catholic but just don't know how.

The congregation of Corpus Christi invite you to enrich yourself and learn more about Catholicism. The Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults is for people who want to learn about Catholicism, become Catholics, or need confirmation.

Deadline Monday for 2008 Future City Competition

This fall, thousands of middle school students will tackle the issue of safety for the country's vast network of utilities, transportation, structures and communications systems in the 2008 National Engineers Week Future City Competition. Sponsored by the nation's professional engineering community, Future City aims to stir interest in science, technology, math and engineering among young people. The Northern Nevada Future City Competition will be in January in Reno. The national grand prize is a trip to the U.S. Space Camp in Huntsville, Ala.

Archives Month celebration is Friday

Gov. Jim Gibbons has proclaimed October "Archives Month in Nevada." Archives Month kicks off at noon Friday at the Nevada State Library and Archives with a free screening of the documentary "Where's the Loot?" followed by an "Ask the Archivist" session." Participants can "Ask the Archivist" anything they want about how to find historic information, where to find information, how to preserve old photographs, documents, civil war letters, family records and more. Cabaret Kids appear at Comma Coffee

Wild Horse Children's Theater and Comma Coffee are presenting a new, non-competitive venue for kids to perform. "Cabaret Kids" will take the stage at Comma Coffee on the second Friday of every month.

The premiere performance is Friday at 7 p.m.. and includes Heather Hall, Stephanie and Melissa Kulla, Monica and Melody Ricketts, Anne Marie, Logan Bard, Erryn Bard, Kasia McKay & Mysha Van Straten, Heather Canfield & Katie Rominger, Laura Mohlenkamp, and Jayme Foremaster. Admission is free and donations will be accepted to benefit Wild Horse Children's Theater scholarship program.

Auditions for the Nov. 9 Cabaret will take place on Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Children's Museum of Northern Nevada. Call 887-0438 to schedule an audition slot. Come prepared with what you want to perform at the Cabaret. There is no charge to be a part of "Cabaret Kids."

Play Bunco and help fight breast cancer

The Fourth Bunco for Breast Cancer event will be 7 p.m. Friday in the Carson Valley Inn's Shannon Ballroom. There will be a silent auction and two different raffles. Raffle tickets are $2 each or six for $10 and are available at area grocery stores through Sept. 100 percent of the proceeds benefit Carson Tahoe Healthcare cancer services in Northern Nevada.
