A man masked in a potato sack and wielding a long-barreled handgun, robbed a loan business on Fairview Drive just before 3 p.m. Thursday.

"He basically pointed a gun at the employee and demanded money," said Carson City Sheriff's Detective Dave Legros. "She showed him where the money was and he took that and wanted additional money and she told him there wasn't any more."

Legros said the bandit spent a few moments looking through a couple more drawers before he ran from the business. A witness reported seeing the suspect running south on Utah Street approaching Colorado as he pulled off the mask.

Within moments of the robbery, police learned there was a man on probation with a history that would indicate he could possibly have been the suspect, however after approaching his Utah Street home with weapons drawn, officers contacted the parolee in Timberline.

Officers also chased reports of four men seen walking in the area who appeared to be nervous, but found the men were not connected to the robbery.

Carson City investigators are looking for the bandit described as 6-feet-3-inches tall, or taller, with a thin build. He was last seen wearing black wind pants, a gray hooded sweat shirt and gloves. Legros said he had fashioned a mask out of a potato sack by cutting out eye holes.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Carson City Sheriff's Department detective division at 887-2020 ext. 1400.
