Subway restaurants plan healthy alternatives to Halloween sweets

The Subway restaurants in Minden, 1659 Highway 395, Suite A; and Gardnerville, 1328 Highway 395, Suite 101, said they're going to do something special for Halloween. The owners said the restaurants will offer a healthy alternative to candy.

The Downtowner Motor Inn re-opened recently. It was shut down by the city in 2005 due to safety concerns. Manger Rick Lugone said it will be different now.

City National Bank has given $500 and 500 new books to C.C. Meneley Elementary School in Gardnerville as part of the Reading is the Way Up child literacy program.

Sonia Lemus will be hired as D&D Roofing and Sheet Metal's new human resources manager. Lemus brings 15 years of experience in human resources, health-care industry, gaming and construction. The company, located in Storey County's Tahoe-Reno Industrial Center, is also ranked 44th in the list of the top 100 roofing companies in the country. The company does both residential and commercial roofing.

Northgate Movies 10 has opened as a $1 movie theater as of Friday.


A sign on the theater says it's now undergoing renovations. The theater has been open since 1980 and was the only theater in Carson City for years until the Galaxy Fandango Theatre opened in early August.

Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center said it will be able to announce the buyer of the old downtown hospital in about a month.

We Be Blessed Thrift Store, a nonprofit local shop opening later this month, is looking for donations and volunteers. The store will be at 232 E. Winnie Lane and sponsor Citizens Against Poverty, a group working to assist children and the elderly. Contact them at 882-4922.
