Tax filing deadline approaching


The Internal Revenue Service has announced that the deadline is Monday for more than 96,000 Nevada taxpayers who took the automatic six-month extension to file their federal tax return.


Taxpayers who have yet to complete their tax return are encouraged to use IRS e-file or IRS Free-file to prepare and submit it. More than half of the 1.17 million returns filed by Nevadans thus far have been filed electronically.


More on the extension deadline, e-file and the telephone excise tax refund can be found at www.irs.gov. Forms and publications, including the 1040X amended form, can be downloaded from the IRS Web site or by calling 1-800-TAXÐFORM (1-800-829-3676).




College to display Ekleberry art works


"ART/istry," an exhibit featuring "creativity from your head to the wall" by Renee Ekleberry, will be displayed in the College Gallery at Western Nevada College through Friday. This multifaceted exhibit includes paintings, illustrations, photography, printmaking, and more pieces produced in a variety of processes.


The paintings were done in oil, acrylic, soft pastel, oil pastel, gouache, watercolor, mixed media, collage, and gold, silver and copper leaf.


The illustrations were drawn in pen and ink, graphite, color pencil, and Photoshop. The printmaking process included etching, block, silk-screen, and Giclee printmaking.


A reception for the artist will be 4:30-6 p.m. Monday in the gallery. Call 445-3000.

Task force to meet


The Mound House Task Force Meeting will be 7 p.m. Monday in the Fellowship Hall at the Bread of Life Christian Fellowship, 10042 Highway 50 East.

Galactic performing at MontBleu casino


Galactic, a group that brings music a new meaning, will be performing at 8 o'clock tonight at MontBleu Resort Casino & Spa for a one-night engagement presented by Renegade Productions.


For more than a decade, Galactic has rocked audiences with their inimitable sound developed from the influences of hip hop, electronic, Latin, rock, blues and jazz.


MontBleu Theatre doors will open at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $25 plus tax and can be purchased by calling (800) 658-3353, visiting Ticketmaster outlets or at www.ticketmaster.com. All tickets are general admission and the show is open to all ages.




Auditions for production of 'Oliver!' in Squaw Valley


The Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival is skipping a winter break to partner with the Nevada Shakespeare Company in the holiday production of "Oliver!" slated for Dec. 9 at the Resort at Squaw Creek.


Auditions for "Oliver!" are today from 1-4 p.m. at the Olympic Village Lodge in Squaw Valley, Calif.


The auditions will fill 50-60 openings in the cast for children ages 5-18 and provide an opportunity for the kids to learn from professional actors in the community.


Instrumentalists can audition for the orchestra from 4-5 p.m. and should be prepared to perform a short extract from a recent performance as well as sight-read a piece from the show.


The audition fee is $20 and scholarships are available.




Reno Little Theater to hold auditions


Reno Little Theater will hold auditions for "The Bug," a comedy of office mix-ups in the world of computers at 7 p.m. Sunday and Monday at 246 E. Arroyo. Parts needing to be filled are two men, two women, ages 18 and older. Directed by Jim Martin, "The Bug" will be performed Dec. 1-16. Call 329-0661 or 345-6724.
