Community theatre group presenting 'Steel Magnolias'


The Carson Valley Community Theatre will present six performances of "Steel Magnolias" today and Sunday and Oct. 26-28.


Tickets are available at The Record Courier in Gardnerville, Barone and Reed Food Co. in Minden, and at Comma Coffee in Carson City or online at carson valleycommunitytheatre.org.


Ticket prices are $15 for general admission with senior, student and group (eight or more purchased in advance) discount tickets for $12. A "Dinner & Show" package is available for $45 for the Friday and Saturday night shows and may be purchased at Barone & Reed Food Co. For information, call 720-8316.




Lyon County


Donations accepted today for Sunday church fundraiser


The Smith Valley Catholic Church and Smith Valley Methodist Church will hold their annual Harvest Auction on Sunday.


The churches rely on donations from the surrounding communities. Bring donated items to the community hall in Wellington 9 a.m.-2 p.m. today.


They cannot accept clothing or mattresses. Contact 465-2516 or 465-2152.




Democratic Central Committee meeting in Silver Springs


The Lyon County Democratic Central Committee will hold its October meeting 11 a.m. today at the Pizza Factory on Highway 95A in Silver Springs.


Representatives from the Nevada Democratic Party and various Democratic campaigns will be on hand to update attendees about the Democratic Presidential Caucus planned for January.

The Feline Frenzy project is under way


A free spay/neuter drive for feral and free-roaming cats, dubbed "The Feline Frenzy," in Washoe County today aims to neuter 200 free-roaming cats in a single day.


The goal is to prevent the birth of kittens in neighborhoods across the county through Trap-Neuter-Return, a nonlethal method of controlling feral cat populations.

Donations to help with the costs of spay/neuter and vaccinations for the feral cats are needed and greatly appreciated.




Bangles show to benefit Autism Coalition of Nevada


The Autism Coalition of Nevada will host a fundraising event today at the Grand Sierra Resort Showroom. First lady Dawn Gibbons and Annette Whittemore, M.D. will be honored for their commitment to assisting Nevadans with autism.


The fundraiser will comprise of a cocktail reception, silent and live auctions and a dinner program with entertainment by the Bangles and Dilana Robichaux. Contact 329-2268.




Multiple Sclerosis Society hosting annual meeting


The annual meeting for the All America Chapter Great Basin Sierra Division Multiple Sclerosis Society will be 9:30 a.m. today at the Atlantis Casino Resort, Ballrooms A and B in Reno.
