Carson City

Transportation board needs commissioners

The Carson City Board of Supervisors is seeking applications from individuals interested in serving on the Regional Transportation Commission. The RTC is the policy making body on transportation issues within Carson City. Its purpose is to establish priorities and recommend appropriate funding for transportation improvement projects. The members of the Regional Transportation Committee also serve on the Carson Area Metropolitan Planning Organization Board to discuss and take action of federal monies spent on transportation within the Carson Metropolitan Planning Area. There are two vacancies. The positions serve without compensation.

Volunteer applications may be obtained from and returned to the Carson City Executive Offices, 201 N. Carson St. Ste. No. 2 by Nov. 15.

Library board meeting rescheduled until next month

Carson City Library Board of Trustees will not meet for its regularly scheduled meeting Thursday. The meeting has been rescheduled for 5:30 p.m. Nov. 16 in the Sierra Room of the Carson City Community Center. The agenda will include items for both October and November. This meeting will combine regularly scheduled Library Board of Trustee meetings for the months of October and November. Call 887-2244.

Retired employee group meeting today

National Active and Retired Employee Association will meet 2 p.m. today at the Carson Valley United Methodist Church, 1375 Centerville Lane, Gardnerville. The speaker for the meeting will be Donald F. Brown, Sierra District vice president of Nevada Federation of Chapters. Call 265-5549.

Professionals Empowering Parents, Parents Educating Professionals, and Parents Encouraging Parents will host a children's art show and silent auction 3-7 p.m. today at Willow Springs Outpatient Services, 650 Edison Way, Reno.

Enjoy refreshments and music while viewing priceless children's art and participate in the silent auction.

Workshop to be offered in Spanish

Landscape and construction workers still have time to sign up for the free Best Management Practices class for Spanish speakers, 6 - 9 p.m., Nov. 1 at the Boys & Girls Club of North Lake Tahoe, 8125 Steelhead Ave., Kings Beach.

BMPs are land management techniques that control erosion and prevent water pollution, and also result in attractive, healthy landscapes. Property owners in Lake Tahoe are required by local regulations to implement BMPs on their properties in order to protect Lake Tahoe's water quality and unique beauty.
